The Canadian Federation of University Women is a local, this provincial, mind national and international organization of women, most of whom have graduated from post-secondary educational institutions. We are a non-profit group who are committed to the:
? Pursuit of knowledge
? Promotion of education
? Improvement of the status of women and their human rights
We are active participants in public affairs, and work in a spirit of cooperation and friendship. We connect women in our community to each other to share friendship, knowledge, resources and networks in order to strengthen communities locally and globally. We share our knowledge and friendship through our specialized Interest and Service groups. With more than 25 areas of interest, our members have fun…learn…and help out in our community.
We are the St.Thomas members of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), established in 1919 to safeguard and improve the social, economic and political status of Canadian women and girls, to champion public issues, and to improve education, the environment, peace and human rights for the whole of society.
The CFUW represents 10,000 members in 122 clubs across Canada. It is also a founding member of the Graduate Women International (GWI), an organization comprised of 79 national affiliates. The GWI and its members take an interdisciplinary approach to tackling global issues and present women from around the world with a common ground on which to meet.
Generally meetings take place on the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. We offer an informative program highlighted by a guest speaker, then followed by refreshments and a brief business meeting. In addition, we have three well established Interest Groups including a book club, a bridge group and a social luncheon group, which meet regularly.
